In addition to reliving the story from the TV series, the game also features an original story. The main game system is a turn-based command battle RPG in which players battle against a variety of curses.

Unfortunately, the game is only available in Japan as of December 4th 2023*, but given how popular Jujutsu Kaisen is globally, we are sure the game will be localized and made available globally soon. So in this article, we will introduce the story mode, battle system, and best characters to get so those reading it will get to have a head start when it does become available!

*there is an IP block by the system, but some are reporting that by downloading the APK for Android devices or the app from the JP iOS App Store, and then using OvpnSpider to VPN to Japan, the game is playable from outside Japan, so for those that can’t wait until the global version, give it a try!

The main quest, which is the core of the game, follows the original story from the anime/manga, with Live2D interactions between characters, still illustrations, and in some cases, animations which are unique to this game. In addition, all dialogue is newly recorded in full voice, allowing you to look back on the TV anime and experience the same scenes and dialogue in a fresh way.

One of the most noteworthy points of this game is the original story “Fukuoka Branch School Arc”. The story is set between the “Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc” and the “Death Painting Arc” of the TV anime, and features several original characters such as Saki Rindo, Kaito Yuki and Kensuke Nagino. This story is playable from Chapter 7.

Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Parade: Battle System

Battle system from Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Parade

The game uses a “turn-based command battle RPG” system in which players fight against the curses by selecting command skills such as unique attacks and buffs/debuffs for each character. Up to four character cards can be placed in battle, and a team of up to six can be formed, including a sub from your roster and a support character from another player.

Each character has three unique command skills and one special skill, which are selected each turn to fight. Cursed energy increases each turn up to the maximum limit, but if the character does not have enough cursed energy to use the skill, it cannot be used.

The characters are placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th from the left side, and except for a few special command skills, they basically act in order. Special skill gauge rises when the player uses a command skill or is attacked by an enemy, and when the gauge reaches its maximum level, the player can use a “Special Skill” unique to each character.

When two characters use special skills in the same turn, a “linked special attack” is triggered. The “linked special attack” not only increases the effectiveness of each special attack skill, but also provides an additional effect, which can greatly advantage the player in battle.

Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Parade: Best Characters

As of December 4th 2023, there are over 30 playable characters from the game each with a rarity from SSR, SR, and R (there can separately be a SSR Itadori and a SR Itadori). While the higher the rarity (SSR), the better the characters usually are, but depending on some of the special skills that the characters have, a lower rarity character can be more useful. So let’s take a look at the top 10 recommended characters.

1st: “Strongest” Satoru Gojo SSR

Satori Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Parade

The character is a high firepower attacker with the auto-skill “Limitless” that has the ability to nullify attacks. However, in the seventh turn of the battle, his auto-skill “Urgent Business” is activated and he withdraws from the battle, making him an attacker specialized for short-term battles. The special attack skill “Red” has one of the highest firepower among attacks targeting the entire enemy.

2nd: “Steel-Framed Girl” Nobara Kugisaki SSR

Nobara Kugisaki from Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Parade

The character is an attacker who gives nail counts to opponents with her command skill and produces high firepower with her special move, “Hairpin”. It can produce top-class instantaneous firepower depending on the nail count, making it useful in boss battles. With the command skill “I will exorcize you” she can increase her own jujutsu performance for four turns. It is recommended to use this skill in the turn before using a special attack to maximize firepower.

3rd: “Curse Power Glows Black” Yuji Itadori SSR

Yuji Itadori from Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Parade

The character’s special skill “Black Flash” is a technique that inflicts 450% (3-hit) martial art damage to a single target, which goes well with his high stats. When linked, it can inflict martial art damage on a single enemy. The “Extreme Concentration” command skill grants himself a large critical attack rate increase and a medium Black Flash attack rate increase for 3 turns, and can recover his special skill gauge.

4th: “Memory of Friendship” Aoi Todo SSR

Aoi Todo from Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Parade

The character has a powerful command skill, “Memory of Friendship”. It buffs himself and one ally behind him with martial art stat while granting “best friend” to the same ally which can nullify enemy attacks while countering damage. Todo’s special skill “Best Friend,” deals 525% martial art damage to a single selected enemy. It can also grant an increased Concentration Rate to himself and allies in “best friend” status, so use “Memory of Friendship” before using the special move.

5th: “Don’t Underestimate Dolls” Panda SSR

Panda from Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Parade

The character’s command skill “I have to take it!” can lower its own damage and attract enemy attacks to itself, and shows its true value by protecting allies. It has a special effect that allows for an automated respawn. The special attack “Drumming Beat” grants him gorilla mode, allowing him to get buffs while damaging the enemy. He can also apply a damage reduction buff to allies by linking up the special attack with them.

6th: “Educator Who Gives Awareness” Masamichi Yaga SR

Masamichi Yaga from Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Parade

While being a “SR” rank, the skills that buff allies and debuff enemies are super useful in battles, making the character more valuable than some “SSR” ranks. The character’s special skill “Cursed Corpse Grand March” can inflict a jujtsu attack on one enemy of your choice, and can also inflict martial art & jujtsu down, and damage up. Masamichi’s command skill “Guidance to Pupil” grants martial art and jujutsu up to all allies. It has a long duration of 4 turns, so be sure not to run out of buffs.

7th: “Aerial Scout” Momo Nishinomiya SR

Momo Nishinomiya from Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Parade

Similar to Yaga, while being a “SR” rank, the skills she has are super useful in battles, making the character more valuable than some “SSR” ranks. The skill “Whirlwind of Curse Power” stuns the entire enemy with a probability of over 50%. The special skill also has a fixed probability stun on the entire enemy. Except for the basic skill “Wind of Curse Power” all other skills grant the character an evasive state, which will reduce the chance of taking damage, making it easier to survive and provide stable support to allies.

8th: “Inherited Techniques” Megumi Fushiguro SSR

Megumi Fushiguro from Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Parade

The character can use the special skill Divine Dog “Kon” to inflict jujtsu damage on a single enemy while buffing himself. “Kon” will then stay which will activate a damage increase effect when Fushiguro activates a command skill. The key to using Fushiguro is how to maintain “Kon” in the fight.

9th: “Spell of Determination” Toge Inumaki SSR

Toge Inumaki from Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Parade

The character prevents allies from taking damage that would disable them in battle only once. It is effective against strong enemies and can be expected to play an active role in difficult areas. The “Shatter” skill increases the amount of break damage to the user and increases the damage dealt to the enemy.

10th: “Ratio Technique” Kento Nanami SSR

Kento Nanami from Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Parade

The character can increase the amount of break damage and the critical attack rate for 4 turns. In particular, the amount of break damage is increased by more than 50%, making it useful as a breaker in boss battles. It has a special skill that deals high damage to all enemies, which is effective in battles with multiple enemies.
